Scientific Name: Terrapene carolina
Three toes? This turtle usually has three toes on the back feet. It has a tan to brown shell and is found in the woodland areas of eastern Oklahoma. Males often have red coloring on the neck and red eyes.
Three-toed box turtles will eat almost anything, including dead animals. When alarmed, the turtle has hinges on the bottom shell that can be closed. The turtle pulls inside and shuts the “door”.
